Hey all of you Devoted Devotional Doers!! (thanks Rachel)

I hope that you keep up the great job of doing your devotions faithfully! What happened to everyone yesterday? Wow! We went from 16 to like 5. Stay faithful!!!

Laswt night was loads of fun! If you missed it, I am sorry! We missed you! We had some fun music, a great Ice Breaker a few announcements, a quick message and then we went out back and knocked some teeth out playing flickerball!! Wow! I think this game has been resurrected by Suncoast Youth Group.

Well, onto the devotions for today!

This passage is a little bit difficult to read, so take your time and try to figure out what it is talking about! Dont worry about the parts that you cant understand.

Romans 11

1 I say then, has God cast away His people? Certainly not! For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
2 God has not cast away His people whom He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says of Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel, saying,
3 “LORD, they have killed Your prophets and torn down Your altars, and I alone am left, and they seek my life”?
4 But what does the divine response say to him? “I have reserved for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.”
5 Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace.
6 And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace.
But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work.
7 What then? Israel has not obtained what it seeks; but the elect have obtained it, and the rest were blinded.
8 Just as it is written: “ God has given them a spirit of stupor, Eyes that they should not see And ears that they should not hear, To this very day.”
9 And David says: “ Let their table become a snare and a trap, A stumbling block and a recompense to them.
10 Let their eyes be darkened, so that they do not see, And bow down their back always.”

Israel’s Rejection Not Final
11 I say then, have they stumbled that they should fall? Certainly not! But through their fall, to provoke them to jealousy, salvation has come to the Gentiles.
12 Now if their fall is riches for the world, and their failure riches for the Gentiles, how much more their fullness!
13 For I speak to you Gentiles; inasmuch as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry,
14 if by any means I may provoke to jealousy those who are my flesh and save some of them.
15 For if their being cast away is the reconciling of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?
16 For if the firstfruit is holy, the lump is also holy; and if the root is holy, so are the branches.
17 And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree,
18 do not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you.
19 You will say then, “Branches were broken off that I might be grafted in.”
20 Well said. Because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. Do not be haughty, but fear.
21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either.
22 Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off.
23 And they also, if they do not continue in unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.
24 For if you were cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, who are natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?
25 For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.
26 And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: “ The Deliverer will come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob;
27 For this is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins.”
28 Concerning the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but concerning the election they are beloved for the sake of the fathers.
29 For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.
30 For as you were once disobedient to God, yet have now obtained mercy through their disobedience,
31 even so these also have now been disobedient, that through the mercy shown you they also may obtain mercy.
32 For God has committed them all to disobedience, that He might have mercy on all.
33 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!
34 “ For who has known the mind of the LORD? Or who has become His counselor?”
35 “ Or who has first given to Him And it shall be repaid to him?”
36 For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.

First I believe that this chapter of Romans is telling the people of Israel that God has in fact not abandoned them. Sometimes it may seem that God is no longer walking with us but the truth is that we aren't walking with God.

The chapter is a bit wordy but the overall message remains, we are not going to get to heaven or to God by works. If works were the way then grace would no longer be so and it is by God's grace that we are saved.

The Lord is telling the people of Israel that they have disobeyed him and thus given grace to the gentiles, for in their fall was jealousy and even more sin. It is like when we as Christians begin to fall and realize it the first thing we do is begin to nit-pick others, as if we are somehow better than they are. Suddenly we start to notice and point out all of the sins that other people are doing and we push outs under the rug, leading to more sin. It's an endless web of lies that only brings you further away from God. And as Romans 10 said ALL you need to do is call upon the name of the Lord.

The very end tells us that the only way to heaven is through God. And what an amazing God he is.

Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! - We will never understand how God operates, we must have faith and always walk with him and follow his ways, even when it is hard. As we saw from Joseph great faith brings great rewards.

I could be totally off but that was what I got out of the chapter today. Anyways I have class in less than ten minutes but at least I didn't do the devotions at midnight. :]

There are a lot of very powerful verses in this passage! This passage really reminded me that EVERYTHING in life and about it are all about God and Him alone. Everything that happens to us, everything that is given to us, everything that is done to us and through us is because of Him. We can feel secure in this because we know that Christ's wisdome is so vast we can't even understand it! He is in all things and through all things, and without Him is NOTHING! Because of this, we must choose to live our life for Him. Think about it, we serve the God who knows it all. He tells us what is best for us, and we don't do it. In our terms, we would say "duh." It would be like having permission to look at the test and study all the answers before it and then saying I don't want any part of it. Of course, we would fail miserably! We must rely on our almighty God.

Verse 26 say that Israel will one day get saved. Revelation 7 talks about the 144,000+ Jews getting saved in the Tribulation and God will deliver them from the Judgements of his wrath. They just might get martyred for their faith though.

Pastor Lee, you should really consider updating the prayer blog.

I think this passage tells the isrealites that God didn't leave them. God didn't leave them he already knew what they were going to do next. In this chapter I learned that the isrealites were disobeying God and going deeper into sin. I think that he said in verse 14 that the isrealites are jealous of the gentiles.

The Isrealites believed that God had abandoned them. In reality God was with them the whole time. Sometimes we believe that God isn't with us when times are bad but thats just satan gittn' into your brain. You have to sit back and realize that there is a bigger picture that God is looking at for your life. Also God will be easier to see in your life if you are following Him.

lol Cary; PC is so embarassing, we stinkkkk!

Hmm i was a little confused and even now im probably not going to be correct, but im tryin (:

So around verse 20 it talks of a tree and its branches, i dont know why, but specifically an olive tree. ?

Anyways, it says do not speak in vainglory of yourself, your blessings, and your sucess, because it is not truly YOURS.
It reminds us that its not the branch that is the center and foundation of the plane, but the root, which supports your life (as a branch; and as a Christian... not even to that extent...but simply a live human!).

Yesterday was about the grace we are given, but we should remember where that grace came from and where the glory should always go for our sucess!

i never really do anything fantastic enough to boast of, but just little things like how great my day goes or how unexpected a blessing was, i could definitely give God more thanks for.

Well I had to read this more than once and a few more things stuck out to me the 2nd time. I had some trouble understanding but the last verse says that everything is His including us! Even though the Israelites had sinned God was with them. We need to remember that God is with us and that we should always follow Him and the plan He has for our life that way we can become closer to Him. I like how Rachel says that it may seem that God is not with us but we are really not with Him. If we realize we are about to make a sin then think about what God would want you to do and not anyone else or yourself! Follow HIM!!! bye for now

well, the most powerful verse in this passage to me was the one that says that Gods gifts and calling is irrevokable. That is so great!

To revoke... that is what happens to your license whenever you get too many tickets.

The authority takes your license away from you...

Well God explains to us that he will never take away our gifts or our calling...

Here is where that hits home with me. I KNOW THAT I KNOW THAT GOD called me to serve him with my life! I never have to doubt that, and I NEVER HAVE TO WORRY IF GOD HAS CHANGED HIS MIND!!!

GOD WILL NEVER cancel his calling on my life! Praise THE LORD!!!

Thank you God for always being willing to use me regardless of how many times I fail you! What a great incentive to press on for your Glory!!
