Proverbs 8:1-11

Pastor Lee:
This passage begins by personifying "wisdom". In other words it pretends like there is a person named "wisdom". And "Wisdom" is crying out to us saying: "o ye simple ones" that is us. Simple often means dumb or unlearned. But wisdom is not being critical she is simply saying "you need me". And that is the absolute thruth. We cannot make it through this life without the wisdom of God, and we find that in his word. This passage finishes by comparing wisdom to a few things: Wisdom is better than Gold, Silver, Rubies, or anything that can ever be desired. We must seek and understand the wisdom of God and we do that by staying faithful in His word. By doing your devotions today, you are seeking wisdom and obeying this passage! Great Job!!

1 Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?
2 She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths.
3 She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.
4 Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man.
5 O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.
6 Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.
7 For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
8 All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them.
9 They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.
10 Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.
11 For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

FEBRUARY 29th!! What a cool day! Only comes once every four years. I told Katie it would be so cool if Will is born today because when he is twenty he will have only had 5 real birthdays. Awesome!! Alright to the point:

Proverbs 7:19-27

Pastor Lee:
This is the remainder of the story we read yesterday. We see more enticing from the harlot. She literally says, hey my husband is out of town, so why dont you come to my house while my husband is gone. Guys, do you want to have that kind of wife? Well, then be careful who you date. When an ox is going to get slaughtered, it has no idea that in a few moments its life will be over. When we are involved in sexual sin, we are walking into destruction with no idea, that this could be the end of a happy life. And finally the end of this passage makes it clear to completely stay away from this girl because it says: Avoid her path, because Many strong men have been slayed by her. It is easy for a guy to say, I can handle it! but the truth is, many more Godly men than I am have made the mistake and I better stay away! Teenagers, you better stay away from anyone that wants to take your purity. It may sound fun, but it will be like a "death chamber" for the future of your life.

19 For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey:
20 He hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed.
21 With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.
22 He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;
23 Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.
24 Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.
25 Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.
26 For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her.
27 Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.

Proverbs 7:10-18

Pastor Lee:
Wow, this story shows a great picture of the pleasure of sin... FOR A SEASON. This lady is a Harlot and she is sneaky. What is she like? She is loud, stubborn, obnoxious, a flirt, and she is always trying to get the attention of everyone around her? Do you know anyone like that? Guys, if you know a girl like this, then stay away from her. She is Dangerous. Girls, if you ARE a girl like this, then change your ways, find your attention and your significance in your relationship with Christ, not in being loud and stubborn.
Look at how good this passage makes sin look, there is kisses, love, linen of Egypt, myrrh, aloes, cinnamon all night long. But the fact is, we will see how this mans life is destroyed when he allows himself to be fall into the temptation of this woman. Stay away from Temptations.

10 And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.
11 (She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house:
12 Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.)
13 So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,
14 I have peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows.
15 Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.
16 I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.
17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18 Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves.

Proverbs 7:1-9

Pastor Lee:
The idea here is that if we keep Gods commandments then we will live, experienceing the wonderful life God has planned for us. I like the part that says "Bind them upon thy fingers". It reminds me of the boy who tied a string on his finger so He would not forget what his mother told him. Or it would be like when you write something on your hand so that you will not forget it. God says hey, dont forget this! It is important!
The second part of this passage explains what it is like for a young person to fall into immorality. When we are immoral, we are "among the simple ones" and we are "void of understanding". In other words: Sin Makes You Stupid. And when I am living in sin, I make some really stupid decisions. Thank you Lord for your forgiviness in the areas I have failed you and thank you for second chances! Help me not to be"void of understanding", or "simple minded".

1 My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.
2 Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.
3 Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.
4 Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman:
5 That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words.
6 For at the window of my house I looked through my casement,
7 And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,
8 Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,
9 In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night:

Proverbs 6:20-35

Pastor Lee:
This passage is a little bit longer than usual, but for the most part it is focusing on one issue. Adultery. Adultery is to have a relationship physical or emotional with someone who is already married. Most of you teenagers probably think to yourself, well good, I dont have to do devotions today, because I am not married; but I think if we look into this there is a lesson for you unmarried teenagers as well.

I think the greatest lesson for you is this; even though you may not be married yet, God has your mate picked out for you and if you are involved in a physical or emotional relationship with someone who is not Gods will it could be very dangerous.

Read this, as if it applies to you unmarried teenagers, because it does. We should should all avoid adultery, remember in James? James said that when we are a friend of the world then we become the enemy of God; and we become adulterers.

Keep yourself pure teenagers. The consequences of adultery are devastating!

20 My son, keep your father’s command, And do not forsake the law of your mother.
21 Bind them continually upon your heart; Tie them around your neck.
22 When you roam, they[a] will lead you; When you sleep, they will keep you; And when you awake, they will speak with you.
23 For the commandment is a lamp, And the law a light; Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,
24 To keep you from the evil woman, From the flattering tongue of a seductress.
25 Do not lust after her beauty in your heart, Nor let her allure you with her eyelids.
26 For by means of a harlot A man is reduced to a crust of bread; And an adulteress will prey upon his precious life.
27 Can a man take fire to his bosom, And his clothes not be burned?
28 Can one walk on hot coals, And his feet not be seared?
29 So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife; Whoever touches her shall not be innocent.
30 People do not despise a thief If he steals to satisfy himself when he is starving.
31 Yet when he is found, he must restore sevenfold; He may have to give up all the substance of his house.
32 Whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding; He who does so destroys his own soul.
33 Wounds and dishonor he will get, And his reproach will not be wiped away.
34 For jealousy is a husband’s fury; Therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
35 He will accept no recompense, Nor will he be appeased though you give many gifts.

Proverbs 6:12-19

Pastor Lee:
This passage is jam-packed full of wisdom. It starts by talking about a perverse mouth, and it finishes by talking about seven things that God hates. It is clear that when we have a perverse mouth, we are not worth much, and we are not following Gods plan. So what is a perverse mouth? I think the rest of the passage explains what a perverse mouth is. 3 of the 7 things that God hates has to do with the tongue and the way you use it. For example God hates a "lying tongue", do you have a lying tongue? Sometimes we can justify a "little white lie" but God hates it! God also hates a false witness who speaks lies. That means God hates it when someone claims to be a follower of Christ yet leads people away from Christ with false claims. Does your testimony lead people to Christ or away from Christ? and Finally God hates one that sows discordamong the brethren. Discord is basically gossip. God hates it when we gossip and especially when we are gossiping to His children, (other Christians)

Out tongue is the most powerful muscle that we have, it forms who we are in the opinion of others around me. I must not have a perverse tongue, and I especially must not use my tongue in a way that God hates!

What do you think?

12 A worthless person, a wicked man, Walks with a perverse mouth;
13 He winks with his eyes, He shuffles his feet, He points with his fingers;
14 Perversity is in his heart, He devises evil continually, He sows discord.
15 Therefore his calamity shall come suddenly; Suddenly he shall be broken without remedy.
16 These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
17 A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood,
18 A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil,
19 A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.
