Ecclesiastes 3

1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
9 What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth?
10 I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.
11 He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
12 I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life.
13 And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.



This passage is telling us mostly that there is a time and place for everything

A time for love, a time for being born, a time to keep silent, a time to speak up.

There is a time and place for any action!!

Have you ever had a moment when you wondered to yourself that maybe you shouldn't have said this, or done this? I have! You aren't alone. The important thing about it is to LEARN FROM THEM, or possibly from others. That is something we need to look at, because we can't make ALL THE MISTAKES IN THE world ourself! Like for example, I KNOW none of us will sell illegal drugs. Why will we not? BECAUSE WE HAVE SEEN OTHERS RUIN THEIR OWN LIVES!!! We don't want to end up in their position, in jail, or see our relationship with our parents or anyone else get destroyed!!!

Remember, time and place for everything, and learn from the mistakes of others!

There is a very good lesson in this passage, and everyone can benefit from it. It is saying that there is a time for everything, you have to learn when it is time for what. For example, when your teacher is explaining something to the class or teaching, most people know it is not a time to talk. It is a time to be quiet and pay attention. That is what history is all about, learning from the mistakes of yourself and others. Life is all about learning and trying to improve yourself. If you do something and the consequences are bad, you will know not to do it again. The very last verse is also important; it tells us that God has given us many gifts, and he meant for us to enjoy them. This reminds me of my parents when they talk about when they used to go to church years ago, and they weren't even allowed to dance or play music or anything because it apparently was 'disrespectful' to the Lord. But the thing is, He wants us to ENJOY things like music and dancing, not refrain from it! There are certain limits to this, but He wants us to be happy, so we should be able to. If you work hard, you should be rewarded and enjoy what you earned. That sort of goes along with the learn from your mistakes idea; you do something good, receive good consequences, you want to do it again. For instance, if you actually do your work, your grade will increase, and the teacher might tell you you're doing a good job. Wouldn't you continue to do your work? That's sort of how it is when I am having a 'worshippy' day, when I actually take time to go to the Lord and do devotions, pray, etc., I find that somehow, something good happens to me, and I feel much better about myself. Similarly, when I procrastinate and don't do something when I know I should, I tend to have a bad day afterwards or feel even more stressed because I didn't do it, therefore I try not to do it again. This passage carries a very good message that can be integrated into everyone's life in some form or another.
