Hey Guys! I have already typed a bunch today, because this is a long passage... so I will not write much more up here, I don't want to give you too much reading! This is a great passage! Make sure you take the time to read it thoroughly and grasp it!
Genesis 18
1 Then the LORD appeared to him by the terebinth trees of Mamre, as he was sitting in the tent door in the heat of the day.
2 So he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing by him; and when he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them, and bowed himself to the ground,
3 and said, “My Lord, if I have now found favor in Your sight, do not pass on by Your servant.
4 Please let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree.
5 And I will bring a morsel of bread, that you may refresh your hearts. After that you may pass by, inasmuch as you have come to your servant.”They said, “Do as you have said.”
6 So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah and said, “Quickly, make ready three measures of fine meal; knead it and make cakes.”
7 And Abraham ran to the herd, took a tender and good calf, gave it to a young man, and he hastened to prepare it.
8 So he took butter and milk and the calf which he had prepared, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree as they ate.
9 Then they said to him, “Where is Sarah your wife?” So he said, “Here, in the tent.”
10 And He said, “I will certainly return to you according to the time of life, and behold, Sarah your wife shall have a son.” (Sarah was listening in the tent door which was behind him.)
11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age; and Sarah had passed the age of childbearing.
12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, “After I have grown old, shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?”
13 And the LORD said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Shall I surely bear a child, since I am old?’
14 Is anything too hard for the LORD? At the appointed time I will return to you, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.”
15 But Sarah denied it, saying, “I did not laugh,” for she was afraid. And He said, “No, but you did laugh!”
Abraham Intercedes for Sodom
16 Then the men rose from there and looked toward Sodom, and Abraham went with them to send them on the way.
17 And the LORD said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing,
18 since Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?
19 For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice, that the LORD may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.”
20 And the LORD said, “Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grave,
21 I will go down now and see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry against it that has come to Me; and if not, I will know.”
22 Then the men turned away from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham still stood before the LORD.
23 And Abraham came near and said, “Would You also destroy the righteous with the wicked?
24 Suppose there were fifty righteous within the city; would You also destroy the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous that were in it?
25 Far be it from You to do such a thing as this, to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be as the wicked; far be it from You! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?”
26 So the LORD said, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.”
27 Then Abraham answered and said, “Indeed now, I who am but dust and ashes have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord:
28 Suppose there were five less than the fifty righteous; would You destroy all of the city for lack of five?” So He said, “If I find there forty-five, I will not destroy it.”
29 And he spoke to Him yet again and said, “Suppose there should be forty found there?” So He said, “I will not do it for the sake of forty.”
30 Then he said, “Let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Suppose thirty should be found there?” So He said, “I will not do it if I find thirty there.”
31 And he said, “Indeed now, I have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord: Suppose twenty should be found there?” So He said, “I will not destroy it for the sake of twenty.”
32 Then he said, “Let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak but once more: Suppose ten should be found there?” And He said, “I will not destroy it for the sake of ten.”
33 So the LORD went His way as soon as He had finished speaking with Abraham; and Abraham returned to his place.
Wow! I really hope that you took the time to read this a truly grasp what is being said. There are two stories going on here, first. The Lord reminds Abraham that He and Sarah will have a son... Guess who is laughing now!! Sarah! Unbelievable. But, I would probably be doing the same thing... I would probably be laughing histerically at the idea of having a child at the age of 90 as well.
Then God says: Hey Sarah, why are you laughing? Dont you believe me? And what does she say? I was not laughing!! Unbelievable!! We often do the same thing... We might get an attitude or something and then when someone comfronts us about it we say... WHAT!!!!!!! I DONT HAVE AN ATTITUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [could you sense the attitude in just the way it was typed?]
Well, let's trust God when He wants to do something great in our lives. I am reminded of the missionary last night. If they had responded to God the same way that Sarah and Abraham did, then they would have just laughed at God whenever He told them to go around the world to share the Gospel... Instead of laughing, they jumped into action, and made plans to go around the world to obey God!!
God will do great things through them, because they trusted and obeyed God enough to ACT instead of Laugh!
What has God been calling you to do, that may seem impossible?? Do you just say: "YEAH RIGHT" In your heart? or do you OBEY?
If God has laid missions on your heart! DO IT! If God has laid Bible College on your heart or mind: THEN GO!! Don't Hesitate! Just Obey!
The Second Story we see here is one of my favorite stories in the Bible! I love the fact that Abraham HUMBLY approached God and caused GOD to change His plans!! WOW!! Think about the power we have through prayer, we can ask God to change His plans, and He just might do it! He considered it when Abraham asked!!
God says that He will destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. Abraham says: Will you kill all of the righteous in that city just to punish the wicked??? Then Abraham specifically gives God a number. If there are 50 righteous then will you spare the city??
First: I must say: It is natural for me to relate to Jonah, not Abraham... In my flesh I would rather see the Wicked Scorched instead of shown mercy. But I must remind myself that If it were not for God's mercy then I too would be scorched!!
Well, Abraham would have been a great car sales man, because He continues to try and negotiate with God. He says will you spare it for 45? 40? 30? 20? 10? and the story will ocntinue tomorrow... :) make sure you read it! It is pretty amazing!
TRUST GOD and HAVE MERCY on the people around you... AND PRAY... you never know what your conversation with God could change!

the story that i think is amazing in this pasage is the one about sarah with the baby. who would honestly laugh at something god says, right? well i thought is was shocking that sarah would laugh at god. i mean its not normal to see an old woman having a baby but... GOD IS AMAZING!!!
PEACE
hey Pastor lee, can you name the people that qualify for the magic kingdom???
lol, anonymous if youre concerned, why not just do you devotions instead of that comment and know for yourself that you are qualified? :P
So ill comment on both parts starting with Sarah.
So Sarah seems to be in just as much disbelief as Abraham and laughs at God just as he did.
God had done so many amazing things, yet they were in disbelief about this one?
Well they were of course proven wrong and she DID Have a son!
If i was God i mightve just said, hey, if you dont believe me, you just might not get child!
But God tolerates so much from us with such great mercy; He wasnt even phased by their doubt.
Part 2 (:
Thats pretty cool how Abraham just talked to God and God listened, but not only did God listen, He actually took into consideration what Abraham was saying.
Sometimes its hard to think someone who is so powerful could ever want to hear you out, but im learning that if you just talk to God and even ask Him things, you will always get a response. How cool is He!? (:
I bet Sarah was like, What i can't have a baby im like old!! But God had a plan for the baby and both Sarah and Abram. But she laughed at God because she was going to have a baby and she probably really surprised at God that why she laughed. --- It is amazing that everything we ask the Lord for we get a response to!! Thats soo cool!!
Wow this is great! I cant wait to get further into the passage because i love the stories comimg up about Isaac. Anyway its funny that Sarah laughed to God because God can make anything happen even someone having a baby at 90 years old. Its neat this passage mainly talks about being good listeners, and actually doing what God commands.
I would have to agree with what Cary said. Having a baby at 90 isn't normal, but with God, and I'm sure you have heard this said a million times, anything is possible.
There are so many applications from this story, but one in particular really stuck out to me. I love the part that says "is anything too hard for the LORD?" Of course we know that it is a rhetorical question. We know that nothing is too hard for God. In this passage it might be a little hard to relate to a really old lady having a baby, but we can easily relate it to things in our life. So many of us have hard things we have to face daily- but we know that God can do anything! I know I have some unsaved relatives that I want so badly to see them saved. In my mind, they seem so far from God it seems impossible. I can rest assured though, that NOTHING is too hard for God! We just need to make ourselves available for His use!
this starts out by God coming to abraham and sarah and conversing with them. then God says that sarah will have a child, but this time instead of abraham laughing sarah laughs (WOW). then God asks her why she was laughing but she denies laughing (WOW again, lying straight to God's face). then God says that He is going to destroy sodom, but abraham talks to Him about that and says to Him, would you destroy the city if there were 50 righteous people in it and He says no. then abraham keeps going on until he gets all the way to 10 people. so abraham convinsed God out of destroying sodom (WOW, thats powerful). so first of all, again we should always believe in God and never doubt what He says or laugh at it like abraham and sarah did. then we see how powerful prayer is because abraham CONVINCED God out of His decision to destroy sodom. so prayer is powerful and we should pray every day.
Well today was more boring then a bunny sitting on a log picking his nose really i thought i was gonna die ui had so much homework i have a project due september 12 but were gonna be gone friday saturday and sunday so i had to do most of it today wich suck a gazoo.Ok now Sarah is laughing at God but i dont really judge her because i would do the same thing because well iwhy would i be having a baby anyways but if i was a girl and like 90 something years old i would not think its true but Pastor Lee said he thought about the missonaries i thought of that two and when God told them they went and we need to be just like that so when God tells us we dont miss out on anything.
I'M SORRY LIL BRO THAT YOU HAD SUCH A BORINGGGG DAY HOPEFULLY TOMORROW WILL BE BETTER FOR YA....MINE WASN'T BORING AT ALL, DARCY AND I HAD OUR FUNN AND EXICTING PHOTOSHOOT TODAY AND THEN I CAME HOME AND RELAXED!
here I go....I think that most women, like Sarah, would laugh as well if they heard something like this, only because it isn't normal for women who are going through menopause to become pregnant lol! It's the truth though! But, regardless, God DID promise and this is something that Sarah had always wanted sooooo what is all the laughter for?! I think it was laughter in both a joyful and "yeah right God" way which I know is wrong to doubt God but it is also natural for us sinful humans. We almost might think God would say, “I gave you this promise twice and twice you laughed at it. That’s it! No more promise. I’ll take it to someone who will appreciate it.” Instead, God responded by dealing with her sin of unbelief, but not by taking away the promise! HE IS AMAZING! THAT'S WHY HE IS GOD AND NOT ME! :)
Like the verse from 2 Timothy 2:13If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.
Also thank God that there is NOTHING to hard for HIM....cus then HE can also triumphant over our weak faith!
Weak Faith? hmmmmm
Think about it!!!!
Wow well I cant beleive Sarah actually denied what God had asked her. God knows everything we do and when He asked her why she laughed she said she didn't! All things are possible through Him and she needed more trust and belief in God. I agree that its unnormal to see someone in their old age having a baby but if God tells us something will happen in our life then we need to believe it!! God is amazing and He didn't stop working with them! He has a plan for your life and knows best! Anything is possible through Him!
Hope all of you had a great day off of school! See you all Wednesday! bye
this passage is great. if i were sarah id lauph to having a baby at the age of 90 is just impossible to anynormal person but God ment for it to be so, so thats what he did. i thnk that God had a plan no mater what Abram said # wise about sodaom God new that there were no rightous people in sodom for if they were truly rightous they wouldnt be there with the wicked
The thing that stuck out to me was verse 14 when it says 'Is anything too hard for the LORD?'. That is something I know the answer to, but forget to remember when hard times come. When things seem impossible, I tend to give up. That is one thing I'm struggling with lately.
today is a passage of trust. god came to them and while sarah was preparing a great meal she heard the lord say that she was going to have a child. which of course she has been wanting one for years, but is now past the years of childbearing. Then there is obviously a second story here that i believe is not finished yet so i will wait till tomorrow to say something about it.
jeffs birthday in 28 days WOOOO!!!
No matter how crazy God's plans for you are. Whether it is dropping everything and going into full-time Christian service or going to a 3rd world country to be a missionary or whatever it is, we cannot take it lightly. It is a message from God on what His will for our life is. We must pray that His will be revealed and that we stay in fellowship with Him so that we can carry out our duty to His perfect will. Trust God that what He has for you is what you need and if you obey God, He will bless you
wow idk if it is any differnt for an older lady to go through birth compard to a younger woman but i think it would deffinetly wear you out.ND EVEN THOUGHT THIS IS OUT OF THE ORDINARY NOT ONLY DOES ABRAHMA BUT ALSO SARAH IS IN DISBelief.but god still gives that silly girl her child even though she didnt deserve it at all.god loves us so much.he says all we have to do is ask and we will recieve.we as christians need to be the exact opposite of sarah because all this are possible when god is on your side!
:) they didnt think that sarah could have a baby and just laughted at God for saying she was pregnet. well she ended up having a baby :)
