Good Day To You! I am starting to feel like this is becoming somewhat routine for some of you. That causes good news and bad news. I will go with the good news first. If the devotions become routine, then you are well on your way to forming a habit out of it, in other words, you will remember to do them more often. However the bad news is that when something becomes routine it becomes less effective and even boring. I notice a few of you literally putting like 10 words for a devotion. Try to apply the passage to your heart and life a little more, remember the purpose of doing this. It is not just to do them, and it is definitely not to earn an incredible trip at the end of June, but it is to gorw in the Lord. ALSO, Keep up the conversation amongst yourselves in the comments, because that is what keeps you unified and excited about getting back on. Wow, sorry this is so long, I will shorten up the other stuff to make up for it! But DONT YOU shorten anything up! :)

A Few Thoughts From Yesterday:
CCM: Great application of the passage, but we are all wondering who you are?
Josh: Listen man, if you didnt understand the passage, then READ WHAT I SAID ABOUT IT, it doesnt get much clearer than that. (Besides, I know how smart you are, and I KNOW you could have figured it out)
Jessica: Those were some great truths about using your time wisely! We all need to do that!
Jill and Kacey: We will pray for your Dad today, Keep us updated on how his doctor visit goes.

Phillippians 2:1-11
1 Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy,
2 fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.
4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.
5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,
6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,
7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.
8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,
11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

WHAT AN INCREDIBLE PASSAGE! This is one of my favorites. It is a good passage for all of us to have memorized. (at least verses 5-11) So lets start at the top. Verse 1 and 2 may be a little difficult to understand, but here it is: Paul says, hey, if these things (love, fellowship, affection, and mercy) and in Jesus Christ, then we should also have them in us. (vs. 2- "that ye be likeminded, having the same...") He need to grow in the attributes of Christ. NOT only that, but the remainder of this selected passage is great! It asks the question: "Who do you live for?"

WHO DO YOU LIVE FOR? Most people would have to honeslty answer, "themselves". But Paul tells us that there is something far greater to live for. 3 tells us not to be proud or willing to fight over something, instead treat everyone else as if they were BETTER than you. WHAT A CONCEPT... we do the exact opposite: we treat everyone around us as if they were not as good as us. 4 says that we must not focus on ourselves and our own interests, but on the interests of others. Here is the great part then I will be done: 5-11 Give a perfect example, or should I say THE PERFECT EXAMPLE. These verses explain the example that Christ was for us. He, BEING GOD, came down from heaven, He thought of little old you and me, and put our interests above His own. Thank you God for being our savior, our perfect example of how to treat others.

HOMEWORK: Write out an application teenagers. How does this apply to you personally? Here is something I am reminded of, when I was at the Wilds one year, I hung out in the creek to flip all the girls tubes that floated by (at 6:30 in the morning). Well, truth be told, they did not want to get wet, they just wanted to float down the creek, but... that didnt happen. They got wet, and I got called out on it. Someone came to me and said, Hey! you should treat other people better than you treat yourself. In other words, just because it is fun to flip girls out of the inner tube, doesnt mean you should, think about their interests instead of your own. The fact is: Guys, if you want the girls attention, flipping them out of a tube is not the way to do it, but, THINKING about their interests and doing that will get their attention. Am I Right Girls?

We should be like Christ having mercy and affection toward others. I memorized this whole entire passage at the wilds last year.God is the perfect example toward us. We should be examples to others. We need to be thankful to God for being our Savior and dieing on the cross. Jesus humbled himself and became a man for us to die for us. We should have the same love that Christ had for us.

And yes Pastor Lee you are right girls dont like to be flipped out of a inner tube.!

AMEN!!! PASTOR LEE YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT ABOUT THAT FUN LITTLE BOY GIRL ILLUSTARION YOU GAVE HAHA
Paul is still sitting in a nasty, brutal looking jail cell alone and probably hungry and tired and cold (awww someone give him a blanket) but sits to right to the church of Philippi about what God has spoken to him.

Paul talks about how our joy will be truly complete once we share the blessings that God has given us to others. In other words, we need to show people love in a Christ-like way not in a selfish ignorant (not knowing:)) way.
Selfishness is never ethical… whoa big word Jess pat on the back haha because it just isn’t practical but we all are victims of that aren’t we? I KNOW I A CAN BE.
Are there things that I can do to put my attitude into a way that can be used by God? I also think that because we have security in Christ we can learn to move forward in what God as for us in others lives. Christ humbled himself even when he was a human on earth so we need to humble ourselves to be able to do wonderful things for the cause.

WOW!Thats an amazing passage and its said to me that if you love Jesus at sll you should do things for him and be selfish and do them for yourself and that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,
and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.I think thats so powerful and that said to me that God is like reminding you that if you choose not to obey him you eventually will bow down to God in obediance and a way i can apply this to my life is that i do a LOT of things to make my self feel good they may not be bad things but there still just for my self.

what i got from this is to be filled with love, fellowship, and mercy just like Christ. also to do things for others gain and not self gain, so don't be selfish, because Jesus became a person on the earth and took the pain we take, the thirst, the hunger, and the worst the torture He had to take for saying He was the Messiah, like getting beaten, whiped (almost to death), and the worst being hung on the cross and being humiliated to die for us so we could go to heaven, so don't be selfish because God died on the cross for US not HIMSELF. also God will be worshiped and praised forever no matter what happens and i want to be one of those people.

what gets to me abouth this passage is that we should try our best to demonstrate the attributes of christ, no matter what the circumstance. ESPECIALLY at school, christians need to display the christ-like attitude in un christ-like places! i mean... look at poor paul, he sitting in a cold, dark, hard jail cell. i mean it dosent get much worse than that. but paul continues to display the attributes of christ. christians should be friendly also. be friends with the kids that everybody looks down on... see how much it means to them. christians should display the love that christ poured on us... (P.S. pastor lee... i have "manditory" football practice on the week we are at the wilds. BUT WHO CARES!! ILL MISS THE WHOLE SEASON TO GO TO THE WILDS!!!) peace out.... teehee

Ok, these verses are really great! They are basically saying to treat others as you would want to be treated. Even more than that, treat them better than you want to be treated. It's hard to believe that Jesus came to this earth and he was so selfless. He is God for crying out loud! I know if I were Him, I would want people catering to me, not the other way around. But He is a perfect example on how we should be. We should challenge ourselves to treat people better than we treat ourselves, and to think of their best interests instead of ours.

Pastor Lee, I know exactly what you are talking about. I hated it when all the guys flipped us over! And you are right, flipping a girl out of a tube is not a way to catch her attention. Try being nice!

Update on my dad: The doctors are having him take more of his medicine to try to regulate his heart beat. If it doesn't get better within a month then they have to shock him. Praise God he didn't have to stay in the hospital.

What an awesome picture of God's love! He loved us so much that He was willing to put us-disobedient sinners- above Himself. He didn't make a miniscule sacrifice- He sacrificed His very being.

The major application that jumped out to me was this- think about the person that you like the very least. Christ was willing to die for that person. If He was willing to do that, what are we willing to do for them. Are we willing to share Christ with them? If they are saved are we willing to put our own feelings aside to love them? What a challenge. What it really boils down to is this- am I willing to put myself aside and do everything for God's glory? What a challenge.

Hey Tyler, I like your picture! It is difficult to find too many people that truly appreciate the Three Stooges as much as I do.:)

i like this passage today, it's really cool :D

We should honor God, and if you love and respect him you will do all things through him. you should be an image of him to spread his word. Also don't be selfish to Christ. Every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is our savior.

Alex didn't do his devo!!Finally a day where i did and he didn't Yaay!!...yaay?

Hmm, well the later verses caught my most attention, so, ill start there. :] Thinking bluntly, a considerably successful life goal is all about trying to be a prosperous, self pleasing person; and to the non-Christian, it really is their aim! That is the goal for those who dont know what to truly live for. We should share the news of course, but i think in order to do so we have to be humble like Jesus was, and really consider what those people have in store without the truth. To make your Christian purpose (in many ways concerning the destination of un-saved souls) foremost above yourself in piety (big-little word, lol :P) is a simple -and no where near as sacrificing and honorable as Jesus' tenderness for people- way to have the love, fellowship, affection, and mercy that God wants us to have for others and Paul wanted the people to have for each other.
The application here is to take the Godly qualities listed to heart. A selfless attitude is really hard to attain and i know that i dont always have the best intentions when i go out and am among other people i should be considering. i should put myself aside more often and think more importantly of others.

This passage explains to us that we need to try to be like Christ in every aspect of our lives. Paul goes on to say that every knee shall bow and every mouth shall confess that He is lord. Sorry it's so short my mom is rushing me out the door.

I get it=]
we must live as christ through ALL our actions.
We shouldn't be living for OURSELVES which i can say we all have a problem w/at times=[

just because something is fun, u shouldnt do it.

u shouldnt put others down & as pastor lee said...u must treat others better than u would treat urself...

jesus did that for us, he was perfect & treated us a equals.
He didn't put us down because we're lesser than him=]

& EXACTLY GUYS!!!
u want a grlz attention...get 2 know her & what she likes & dislikes...not pick on her like an elementary boy...
when she sees ur interested in what she likes THEN she'll give u the time of day=]

Hmm selfish ambition. I think I have inner conflicts all over the place here. I think about self improvement all the time that's swell. But that can often lead to dying relationships not making time for god. For fellowship and for friendships. This is an amazing humility passage. Compare yourself to Jesus lol. He is Lord yet he came down and made noe reputation. He didnt work on being rich or famous. He did righteous acts and never boasted. Yet so many times we do little things right and think we can tell the whole world how great we are. I pray today that Christ strengthens me against selfish ambition, that I would think of others.

We should treat others like jesus treated people even if you dont like the person you should be nice to them. We should never look down on people just to make ourselfs bigger because that is very selfish. Pastor lee always talks about this to our youth group because when people talk about people it just starts drama and i hate drama! My mom always use to say if you cant say something nice dont say anything at all! We should fear jesus and bow to his name to show respect.

haha pastor lee you were right about that illustration with the tubes i would have been mad not thinking it was cute!!

this applys to me because it reminds me that i need to live for god and not myself...i need to stop living for what makes me happy right now and trust god that his way will make me TEN THOUSAND times more happier...also i need to treat people the way i want to be treated which if im honest with myself means to stop gossiping cause i hate it when people talk about me so i need to not do it back.
