Proverbs 8:1-11

Pastor Lee:
This passage begins by personifying "wisdom". In other words it pretends like there is a person named "wisdom". And "Wisdom" is crying out to us saying: "o ye simple ones" that is us. Simple often means dumb or unlearned. But wisdom is not being critical she is simply saying "you need me". And that is the absolute thruth. We cannot make it through this life without the wisdom of God, and we find that in his word. This passage finishes by comparing wisdom to a few things: Wisdom is better than Gold, Silver, Rubies, or anything that can ever be desired. We must seek and understand the wisdom of God and we do that by staying faithful in His word. By doing your devotions today, you are seeking wisdom and obeying this passage! Great Job!!

1 Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?
2 She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths.
3 She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.
4 Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man.
5 O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.
6 Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.
7 For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
8 All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them.
9 They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.
10 Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.
11 For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

Just like Solomon we should ask for wisdom everday and like you said "Wisdom is better than gold, silver, rubies or anything that can be desired. But we don't think of this like that we may think of wisdom as a smart person or an old man reading but the definition of wisdom is - having or showing good judgement . So when wisdom is crying out to you, you should take and treat it as if it where gold, silver, or rubies!

I love Proverbs, because Solomon prayed for wisdom and has said some of the greatest things inspired by god. I pray today for the wisdom that only god can grant me through his word. Wisdom is gained everyday just like Amy said by acting on good judgement, and again just like Amy said about the passage we can treat these oppurtunities to make right choices and use good judgement like the oppurtunity to get free treasures from god.

Well, i see here that wisdom isnt something people can have naturally, and only the ones who strive for it will obtain it; just like silver and gold. No one is rich and successful without them, or someone before them, working hard to obtain it; and it says wisdom is even more precious! Wisdom, to me, is something that helps you be wise in life decisions and opens you to better understanding; especially understanding of the Lord. I ask and pray all the time for wisdom to use what ive learned through the Lord (devotions and things im taught) and wisdom to demonstrate it at school and among people i can be a witness to. Aiming to be wise is what makes you so and like the passage says; receive instruction rather than silver; and knowledge rather than gold, because they draw you closer to God and are more meaningful than the desires of any earthly matter.
