Just a few days left in 2008! Wow! Can you believe that? This was definitely the fastest year of my life! I remember last January like it was yesterday! Well, let's get on to the devotions!

I John 2

1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
7 Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.
8 Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.
9 He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.
10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

This is so powerful! Have you ever heard someone say: "How do you know that you know?" Well... that question could be asked about salvation... How do you know that you know Jesus Christ as your savior? Well, John answers that question for us: He says you can know that you know Jesus Christ if you keep His commandments!!! That is it! Are you more likely to obey God or to disobey Him? Well, then that is how you can know if you know Christ!

It even goes as far as saying: He that says He knows Christ, and does not keep his commandments is a LIAR!!! Wow! That is pretty clear! Do you know Christ as your personal savior? Well, if you are not sure... then you can simply look at your actions!Do your actions prove that you know Christ or do they say that you do not know Christ??

the powerfull part about this verse is when it says if you are in the light and you hateth your brother... you are truly in the darkness.

Verse 2 I had a little problem with, since I didn't know what that p word ment. I just looked it up and it means, "attoning sacrafice". That makes sense when you put that word in verse two, he was not only a sacrafice to us, but the whole sin-cursed world. Remember, Christ loves His church, but he loves the whole world too. He looks at who we are and not what we do, even though what we do will have eternal consequences. There is a tongue twister for you.

this is saying that if we walk in the light then we are in the light (having a good relationship with God) but if we walk in the light and we hate our brother then we walk in darkness (having a bad relationship with God). so we need to walk in the light and live in the light and we will always have a good relationship with God and we will always be happy.
