Phillippians 1:12-18
12 But I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel,
13 so that it has become evident to the whole palace guard, and to all the rest, that my chains are in Christ;
14 and most of the brethren in the Lord, having become confident by my chains, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.
15 Some indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife, and some also from goodwill:
16 The former preach Christ from selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my chains;
17 but the latter out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel.
18 What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached; and in this I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice.
What a cool passage! Yes, Kenshin (Josh) the person, who wrote this book (Paul) is in Jail. Paul was headed to the city of Philipi when he saw a girl that was posessed by demons. (Acts 16:16-18) Paul decided to free this woman from the bondage of these demons, and when he did, the people of the city got angry and had Paul arrested. Here is the amazing part, like joseph in the Old Testament, when Paul was put in Jail, he did not lose his faith, he knew that he was only in jail because it was part of Gods plan for his life. He had complete peace, because he knew that he was in Gods will, EVEN IN JAIL. Well, I gave you that little introduction to help you understand todays devotions better.
Paul says in verse 12, I want you guys to know something, you may think that it is not too good that I am here in Jail, but the truth is, It has turned out really good, The gospel is being spread even further because I am in here... WHAT??? How is the gospel being spread more while Paul is in Jail. I am so glad you asked. Verse 13 explains that all the guards all know about the gospel because of Paul. while he was in Jail he was witnessing to all the people in Jail with him. How cool is that. Not only was Paul spreading the gospel more. Verse 14 tells us that since everyone saw that Paul was in prison and preaching the gospel, they figured, If Paul can spread the gospel in Jail, then I can definitely spread the gospel outside of Jail. All because of Pauls faithfulness to the gospel, many more people heard about Christ.
Paul was passionate about the Gospel and he made it his goal to tell the whole world about it. Where do you stand in comparison with your passion for spreading the gospel?
verses 15-18 explain to us, that we should spread the gospel, but we should also do it with the right intentions, we should do it with love and concern for lost souls, NOT for any kind of personal agenda.
Good stuff in this devo today! Lets spread the Gospel like Paul did!!!

Paul was a very brave person in Christ . If I were in jail I would be scared to witness to other people but I still would try. Paul was a great missionary in this passage in the Bible. He lets us know that we need to tell the world about Christ. If you just turn on the tv you can find things that are in this world that are even you dont want to explain it. our world is very wicked and evil we need to witness any time we get the chance to. Pastor Lee, the youth group one Saturday should go out and go witness to people, give them tracks and avertisments for the church! I think that would be awesome! whenever i was younger i wanted to be a missionary to Johnasesburg, South Africa with Bethany. But i dont know what God has planned for my life and maybe He will make me a missionary there or maybe somewhere else. Or maybe not a missionary at all. I just want the Lord's will for my life.
Paul is telling the people that he is writing to, not to worry because his detainment is all for the further spred of the gospel. I love how he has such a positive outlook on things. He doesn't care that he is chained in prison as long as people are teaching the word of God. He tells them reasons why people are teaching the word like envy or goodwill or even out of selfishness. My favorite part is at the end when he tells them to rejoice. He's just like hey i'm in prison but that doesn't matter cuz people are being touched by God so don't worry 'bout me just rejoice. Paul is so cool.
while paul was chained in prison he wrote letters and those letters help spread the gospel now it's our turn
see ya all sunday
what Paul is saying is that what happened to him (being put in jail) was supposed to happen for the gospel. during that time in jail he was also singing and the guards were wondering why he was praising God while he was in jail (i think that was Paul). after this the people who were praising God secretly were praising God out in the open not caring if they were to get in trouble. it also says that some people preach the gospel in envy and strife but others preach the gospel in goodwill and to teach people the gospel (we should preach the gospel in goodwill). Paul is also saying that it dosen't matter how the gospel is preached as long as the people are getting the gospel.
wow i want to be like that. I procastinate when i am in a situation im not comfortable and say 'ill just tell someone else later' when its really those people we arent too comfortable with that probably need it most. Paul totally focused on God, even in a place like jail. honestly if i was in jail i would probably be too scared to even try and share God with the other people there. Im not even in jail and i dont witness how im supposed to. I always think of myself and if i come across wrong how dumb id feel; kinda selfish :/ wow. im going to work in it for suree. i think we, especially me, should take Pauls selfless, good for God attiutude to heart when witnessing.
PAUL WAS IN PRISON AND STILL SPREAD THE GOSPEL!!! AND WE NOW-A-DAYS HAVE 4-5 BIBLES AND WE STILL DONT SPREAD THE GOSPEL!! paul was just trying to lets us know about the importance of spreading the word... we need to start telling more people about christ! pastor lee we should start doing door 2 door again... PEACE OUT
we had our first football practice today at lemon bay... (its going to be a long, painfull season :] but its still gonna be fun :)
in this passage paul tells us that while he was in prison he wrote letters which helped spread the gospel he is saying that we need be determined to spread the gospel to others who arent with the lord
P.Lee you crack me up i didn't even realize that till you said that! Pray for me i get my stitches out Tuesday! =0
I think that this passage is supposed to remind everyone that God gives you grace to get through things when you need it most. God gives an example of that through paul who in in JAIL but he's still happy and praising God. Also in verse 12 Paul reminds us all that People will watch how you handle the situation and God can even use that to bring the Glory to him.
P.S. Angie's brother and niece have a blog where you can find info about their progress and leave little comments for them...the website is www.richardandchristie.com so if you get a chance it would be a great blessin to Angie and her family.
What a convicting passage in the Word of God- talk about a Christian who was willing to be content no matter what was going on! Prison in Bible days was nothing like it is now, and Paul still had a good attitude! Not only was Paul not angry with God, he used the opportunity he had to be a witness. I know if something doesn't go my way, my tendency is to complain, not to praise God. That is something I am going to challenge myself with this week. Regardless of the situation, I am going to work on realizing that it is for a reason, and their is someone that I can reach through it. If we all worked on that think of the endless possibilities we can have to reach the lost.
I Think that hes in prison and is saying that even though hes in jail hes saying its all in gods hands."so that it has become evident to the whole palace guard, and to all the rest, that my chains are in Christ" Meaning that everyone knows that he beleves in God and that his chains are in Jesus and i dont know how that hes in this horrible postion that he can be thanking God i mean i would be blaming God but i guess thats just my ignorance and that should be a something we should try to acomplish for ourselves in the worst times we should be thanking God because he has put us in the postion for a reason and we should thank him for that.

I was REALLY sick today so this is going to be the extend of my devos! Basically Pauls in jail, freed a girl from demons, Paul praised God even though he was in jail because he knew God had a plan for his life, The end
Jess....
what i got most from this passage is that prettymuch everything happens for a reason and the reason paul was put in jail was to preach and share the gosple with everyone else in there
even the little things in our lives can always turn out for the good and somehow we can always put God in it =]
we all need to try to be more like Paul in our everyday lives
I think this is saying that god does everything for a reason he has a plan for your life and hes going to do it. we should be happy in our life even when you dont get your way its god plan for you. Ive had some troubles through my life but now I realize that its part of my plan in life. Sometimes you have to forget things and just go on.

sorry for posting two im at brians house and his computer if hacked or sumthing but whatever bye
Hm Paul was ammazing. He is in jail because of his faith and instead of asking why is god using me like this? He rejoices that God used him for such an amazing spread of the Gospel.
Paul says that "the whole palace guard, and to all the rest, that my chains are in Christ."
So people notice when we are persecuted and persevere through it. The lost might look and say what is it about Christ that has them so devoted. Or what is it about that guy/girl that makes them so happy while people ridicule them.
This reminds me to stand up for Christ no matter who people treat us because we are not of the World and we will be persecuted.
i remember hearing about this passage before.
it was pretty cool.
God does things to us for a reason.
Good Bad...
Paul was sent to jail for being christ like & helping somebody.
He's brave...he continued to preach
on after being sent to jail.
id be afraid to continue on.
Even though he was sent 2 jail, it helped spread the word out & encouarage people to spread it=]
Was it this guy who aslso preached to the gueards & got them 2 believe to??? or something to that extent???
