James 4:6-10

Pastor Lee:
There is a theme in these few verses and the last verse summs it up. If I will humble myself in the sight of the Lord, then He will lift me up. Often times we see people trying to lift themselves up in life. We are probably even guilty of it often times. But this passage makes it clear, when we try to lift ourselves up, then we only give ourself a false sense of position. The truth is, that when we lower ourselves, then Christ will lift us up. Because God resisteth the proud, Just like you do.
HAve you ever met a "one-upper"? Everything you say that you have done, they always say they have done it more, or better, or faster, or cooler. Many of us have met that kind of person, and we resist them, because they are always trying to make themselves look so good.
Live today with humility, understand how low we are, and let Christ alone lift us up.

By the way: I love the promise, "Draw neigh to God and He will draw neigh to you"
He is getting closer to you everytime you take a step in your daily devotions to get to know Him.

6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

this first verse makes me think of how people do something good for others or give them a blessing
and then broadcasts it to everyone like theyer trying to say "look at me look what i did for this person" and then there are the people who do something for someone or gives someone a blessing and they dont say it to anyone and just keep it between them and God
right here it says that God gives grace unto the humble and in this case the humble would be the people who dont say anything to anyone and let the other person enjoy the blessing instead of the proud selfish person who wants all the glory and praise and who doesnt let the other person enjoy the blessing
"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."
this is not saying that if you submit yourselfe to God that that the devil will never temp you again its saying that it will be easier for you not to give in to the temptation of the devil because you will be more like God so thats something that i think we all should work on [expecially me]=]
draw nigh to God and he will draw nigh to you..it takes 2 God isnt gonna do all the work in the situation you have to want to get closer with him too ..just like ina relationship with a boyfriend or girlfriend its no fun if only one of yall are putting effort into it and the other is just there not really worried about whats happening with the relationship and after a while the one whos putting all the effort into it is gonna stop and the relationship is gonna either end or not go anywhere..God isnt gonna put all the effiort into our relationship with him we have to want to be closer with him and by spending more time in him word is showing him that we want to

ok so i think i wrote a lil too much lol i could rite more but ill stop now

We've got to Realize who we are and just deal with it. We need to know that God is all powerfull and we are not powerfull at all. When we humble ourselves before God and show Him love and respect He will lift us up.
We can apply this to our lives by dropping all of our pride and humbling ourselves before Christ. Sorry that this one is not as long. I found it quite challenging.

P.S. I just saw Jill's and all I could say was HOLY COW

yesterday i couldnt find the link to get here on the site after you re-did it :[ but anyways; :] i think that this is saying that the more you can lift people up without becoming arrogant yourself, the higher you truly are (relationship wise) with the Lord. You will obtain more and more grace from God the more you practice it by being gracious to others and staying humble.

I think as Christians we want to be "saint" but we also want to have the experience of feeling everything that sinners feel. We want to do all the so-called "good works" but at the same time feel all the pleasures that come from the world. I can see through these verses that God wants us to be completely humble in everything we do. It's hard, but the verses talk about if we humble ourselves and "submit ourselves and flee from the devil, the devil will flee from you but the Lord will draw nearer. Friendship with the world can sometimes (for me at least) seem like the only logical thing to do because it is the easiest thing to do, but this can only lead to hostility with God. Separation from God is a result of my choice alone. I can choose to submit to God maker of heaven and earth or to flee from Him, with the devil close behind ready to pounce at any moment!!! My challenge as a believer should be to live for God with everything I have and stand firm against this world and what it has to offer.
