Hey everyone! Sorry we are on here so late today... I was at Riverwood Golf Club since early this morning! I golfed a great game!! (It was a lot of fun because it was "best ball") I am seriously thinking that we need to do a youth group Golf Tournament fundraiser!!!

Romans 7

1 Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives?
2 For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband.
3 So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from that law, so that she is no adulteress, though she has married another man.
4 Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another—to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God.
5 For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death.
6 But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.

Sin’s Advantage in the Law
7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.”
8 But sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, produced in me all manner of evil desire. For apart from the law sin was dead.
9 I was alive once without the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died.
10 And the commandment, which was to bring life, I found to bring death.
11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me.
12 Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.

Law Cannot Save from Sin
13 Has then what is good become death to me? Certainly not! But sin, that it might appear sin, was producing death in me through what is good, so that sin through the commandment might become exceedingly sinful.
14 For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin.
15 For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.
16 If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good.
17 But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.
18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find.
19 For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice.
20 Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.
21 I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good.
22 For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man.
23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?
25 I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.

Wow i'm first what a surprise. I think in verse 2 it explains how seriously God takes the commitment that we make on our wedding days. God really means for better or for worse because he says that we stay with our respective partners until death.

From verses 13 to 25 explains that the law cannot save us from sin. even though we should still try to follow the law as best we can, but we're still going to sin against the law. The law cannot save us from sin, HOWEVER God's grace can.

wow you posted late pastor Lee,
and i dont understand how golfing is so great...lol

Well 13-23 are very confsing to me, but i think it is talking about sin and how it is not justifiable through else but God and that it is something we cannot escape because its in our nature and we are willed to commit it; that we cant save ourselves.
Since theres a lot about law, i am thinking of how the law of our flesh is to sin and be evil, but the law of God is just the opposite and when Jesus died for our sins, the law of our flesh died too because we could redeem, i guess you could say, ourselves through Him.
It also says tthough that our fleshly law ISNT sin, but just the contrary to goodness.
So i guess its not really flesh being ruled by sin, but sin ruling flesh by its vulnerability through nature to oppose what is holy. ?
(im trying, but i dont make sense, im sorry :P )

ill post an application in a min.

I MEANT;

**IF I DONT make snese, sorry.

So i guess we can apply this by realizing what can save us; God alone, and that the law is good.
I should follo the law because i know that sin is what opposes it and thats not what i want to be involved in.

If we make a commitment to God, We need to keep it and make sure that if our friends make commiments to God also that they keep them also. Like marriage commitment, That is like the most important commitment, it says in verse 2:For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband.

That is your only excuse, for leaving if your husband or wife dies... The second group of verses talks about sin's advantages in the law, The law couldnt be anymore perfect than the Bible, I don't even think that we need all the rules the government has, just take out a Bible and stick up the ten commandents in the offices and governments facilites, and just follow them, its practically the same thing, But its perfect.

Hey everyone! This is so great and I hope that everyone reads this. It does not pertain to the devotions but GREAT news!! We actually studied Romans 7 at my fall retreat. It was one of the most amazing experiences ever. One of the questions on my heart when I got there was WHO AM I? Sometimes it can be so hard to figure out...well one of the nights the man speaking handed out papers that said this at the top?: WHO AM I? I sat there in amazement but had tears in my eyes when I read it and I really wanted to share.

WHO AM I?
I am the salt of the earth (Matt 5:13)
I am the light of the world. (Matt 5:14)
I am a child of God, God is spiritually mt Father.(John 1:12,Rom.8:14,15, Gal. 3:26;4:6)
I am Christ's friend. (John 15:15)
I am chosen and appointed by Christ to bear His fruit. (John 15:16)
I am a slave of righteousness. (Rom. 6:18)
I am a citizen of Heaven, seated in Heaven right now (Phil. 3:20, Eph. 2:6)

Anyways, those are only a few of the amazing bible verses. I actually had an hour everyday I was there to sit by the lake and have alone time with Jesus and I can't begin to tell you how amazing he is.

About the scripture:
This is simply amazing because I know that I have been struggling with giving myself away to the Lord and constantly doing what I am supposed to. I have been praying for brokenness. I WANT the Lord to break me in the areas of my life that I resist him so that I can be again molded to His word. Four questions we examined at fall retreat after reading Romans 7 were:

1. Do I believe that I am complete in Christ?
2. Do I believe that my personal Godliness is more profitable than anything?
3. Do I believe that I can achieve total satisfaction solely through Christ?
4. Do I believe at my core that God loves me completely and fully?

I asked myself those questions and came up with some pretty scary answers. BUT WOW is our GOD AN AWESOME GOD. Even though I wasn't here to do the devotionals I got them and hard core at that. I am just sitting here overwhelmed and amazed at the power of God and I can not get enough of my savior!

(Sorry for all the writing I hope you guys get something out of my babble!!)
