I just want to brag on what an incredible group of teenagers you all are. Great Job Yesterday. You have to admit, it was very fun and Unifying to read a passage together and all write our own thoughts about it. I could comment on every single on of your comments! You all did so great! I especially liked the spanish devotion with the translation, and I was thrilled to read Jill's testimony about her friends. I would add to what Jill said, It is wonderful and refreshing to hang out with Godly friends and not feel the need to talk bad about others. I believe that there are some girls like that in our youth group. You should unite as great Christian friends, so that Jill doesnt have to drive to Sarasota just to be with "Good Christian Friends" :)

Listen, When the weekend comes, it will be very easy to stop doing the devotions... Trust me! I Know!!!!! But Be Faithful! If you miss a day, then GET BACK ON THE NEXT DAY!!! I am so excited and passionate about seeing what God will do through our youth ministry if we spend time with Him and with each other every day! Love You Guys! Pastor Lee

James 5:1-11

1 Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you!
2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten.
3 Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days.
4 Indeed the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.
5 You have lived on the earth in pleasure and luxury; you have fattened your hearts as in a day of slaughter.
6 You have condemned, you have murdered the just; he does not resist you.
7 Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain.
8 You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.
9 Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned. Behold, the Judge is standing at the door!
10 My brethren, take the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, as an example of suffering and patience.
11 Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord—that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.

I was hesitant to do this chapter today, because It is kind of tough to understand, and at first I did not think that you or I stuggle with being rich :)
However, as I studied it, I saw a few other important lessons we must know. I will start at the top. Verses 1-6 talk about the rich man. This passage makes it clear that money will not bring happiness. I think of many people, especially men like Bill Gates, "The richest man in the World" He has claimed himself that his money has not brought happiness, but it has only showed him that there is something missing in his life. He tried to fill that void by doing charity, but we know the only way to fill that void is to trust Christ. This passage makes it clear that our money is going to fade away, but there is something more important to live for and that is what we see in verses 7-11.
The theme in these verses simply let us know, that while the world may seem appealing and exciting with all of its treasures, and all of it's pleasures, we must follow God patiently! Because the day will come that IT WILL BE WORTH IT ALL. I am reminded again of yesterdays passage. Our life is but a vapor. If we live patienlty for God during this vapor of a life, then we will have all eternity to enjoy Gods pleasure for our life.

These verses are saying that the things in this world are not going to last. Money isn't everything. If you think about it, this world is revolved around money. Yes, we need it to buy things, but it shouldn't be our focus. In the end, money is going to be worthless. It can't get you into heaven, and it can't buy you a relationship with Christ.

In one of my classes my teacher asked the question "does money buy happiness?". Of course I figured that everyone would say no, but there is this one boy that said yes. Everyone was confused about why he said that. He explained that "if you have money then you can buy everything you want, which would make you happy". What he doesn't understand that you can never fully be happy unless you have a personal relationship with God.

Just as the farmer waits for the fruit to grow, we need to wait patiently, not passively, for God to rapture us up or until we die. Passively waiting for God is just like doing anything to pass the time. He wants us to make the time we have here on Earth worthwhile. He wants us to make the most of it by liviing for Him.

hey theree,, :]
well, i think this, in the beginning, is talking about how, of course, money cant buy any true happiness; but it also talks so down about money and the corruption it brings, i think it almost makes it sound easier to not have an abundance of it because it can be such a distraction & hindrance from true happiness in your Christian life. When it says that they have 'fattened their hearts' it is saying that they have completely self induldged themselves to a point where they have just set themselves up for the worst of the slaughter. Thats something big to me because its always so much easier to do what you think will make you happier without thinking of God and the true best thing to do. In the end of this passage i think it concludes with telling us how important it is not to let money & self indulgence be a distraction & to stay focused & have patience with & to the Lord, who will bring us not only true, but everlasting happiness that is worth more than the ungodly distractions of this lifetime.

This passage speaks about dough aka money. It tells us pretty much that money does NOT bring happiness. Only staying loyal to God will truly bring happiness. Also it tells us that money doen't last forever. We may enjoy having things right now but once we die we can't take those tings with us. That is the main reason why we need to trust God. Only He can bring eternal happiness.

like the verse says and like everyone else says money doesnt and cant buy happiness yes it can get u things that make you happy for a while but after a while that happiness goes away and your constantly having to find something else to make u happy but if you have Jesus that is the only true happiness that you can have
today me and my dad were at the mall and we say this girl who looked like she was gonna kill the world and she was so depressed and my dad was making comments about it and hes like Jill how can some one be that unhappy and depressed and how can they live their life that way and all that came to my head was well they dont have Jesus and when i said that to him hes like wow i really didnt think of that but your exactly right and im so glad that i do have Jesus in my life so i dont have that emptiness inside and back to the money issue if you dont have that much money and your a christian then that is an oppertunity to bring you closer to Christ because your gonna have to rely on Him to provide and your gonna have to have faith that he will take care of you and if your in His will then he will always give you what you need and sometimes even more =]
{and oh man kacey ive never heard you talk like this lol you sound so much older and you dont sound like the kacey i used to know which is good =]ILY}

I have really grown throughout this week of doing my devotions. It has been great! I do them because my desire is to have other people see Jesus Christ shine through my life and I know that by doing my devotions is just the start to be a testimony to everyone around me…..but anyways I have learned that wealth will not bring happiness in the way that the "world" wants us to think that it does. I believe that the Lord can bless you with wealth but ultimately it is not eternal and is "but a vapor" while we last here on earth. Look at BRAD PITT haha hott I know! Not only is he good looking lol and filthy rich but the reason why he does so much charity work and goes to other countries and helps the homeless and feeds the hungry and such is because he knows that something is missing and he is searching for more in life. Don't get me wrong those are all "good deeds" and we have been called to serve and show love and compassion towards others, but if there is no relationship between man and God you will be lost, money can do nothing for you. Brad Pitt just does not realize that what he is missing is Jesus Christ to give him all the happiness in the world.

I love this passage so much this helps me alot. I was watching this show the other day and this little girl was about 9 or 10 and her mom was talking to her about taking pictures of her and the little girl said " I don't care if I die, I just want to be rich and famous!" and this passage jump right into my mind. And that our life is like a vapor that is there for a moment and gone in a second. We don't have time to mess around Because we don't know when Jesus is coming back and we need to live for God as much as we can. (life is like a vapor).
