I Chronicles 16:1-11

Pastor Lee:
One of the many cool things about king David is that he was a song writer. When he wasnt killing a lion, a bear, or a giant, (like it says he did in I Samuel) he loved to write music. He would play his harp and sing songs of praise to God. This passage is about a worship service that was led by David. Once they got to the place where the ark would rest they had a service to thank God for bringing this symbol of Gods blessing back to their people. Verses 1-6 talk about what happened at the service, why they had the service, who came to the service and so on. When we get to verse 7 we see that David introduces a song of praise that He wrote. The song is in verses 8 - 11 and here is what the song says in my own words.

Thank you Lord! Everybody ought To Know Who Jesus Is! Sing Unto The Lord! Glory To His Name! Rejoice in the Lord Always! and Seek Ye First The Kingdom of God!

Each one of those sentances above are songs that we also sing. And it falls right in line with the same thing they were singing about back then. Kind of Cool Huh! God deserves and desires our praises and worship today just as much as He did then.

1 So they brought the ark of God, and set it in the midst of the tabernacle that David had built for it. Then they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God.
2 And when David had finished offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD.
3 Then he distributed to everyone of Israel, both man and woman, to everyone a loaf of bread, a piece of meat, and a cake of raisins.
4 And he appointed some of the Levites to minister before the ark of the LORD, to commemorate, to thank, and to praise the LORD God of Israel:
5 Asaph the chief, and next to him Zechariah, then Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, and Obed-Edom: Jeiel with stringed instruments and harps, but Asaph made music with cymbals;
6 Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests regularly blew the trumpets before the ark of the covenant of God.

David’s Song of Thanksgiving

7 On that day David first delivered this psalm into the hand of Asaph and his brethren, to thank the LORD:
8 Oh, give thanks to the LORD! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples!
9 Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; Talk of all His wondrous works!
10 Glory in His holy name; Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the LORD!
11 Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face evermore!

Let this be a reminder that no matter how your feeling you can and should always praise god and seek his strength. It was for me. Give thanks!

This, to me, is syaing that we need to be thankful and know how to show our thankfullness in worship. As the people celebrated of the ark, we should celebrate our salvation and also give God the praise for it. Eeven though it seems more of an occasion then, nothing has changed and the Lord still deserves all the glory in the world.
