James 1:19-27
Pastor Lee:
Yesterday, I was out windsurfing with Patrick at Port Charlotte Beach, and we were driving his boat around the pier when he snagged one of the fishermans lines. So Patrick drove over to apologize and the guy was going crazy. We were both thinking, hello, sir, you have anger management issues. I was reminded of that when I read this passage. Patrick was a great example of this passage: He was swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath. In other words he listened to what the man had to say, but didnt respond in a wrong way, and he didnt beat the guy up. (which he definitely could have) The fact is the wrath of man, or the anger and physical abuse of a man does not coincode with the righteousness of God. If you are a person of wrath, then you are not a person with the righteousness of God. This passage has a lot more too! but I have already gone on too long. Find other stuff the passage says!
19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

wow this was a really good one for today.because thats something ive struggled with alot..being a hearer and not a doer..
and when i hear something i dont like i am very fast to speak and then later on i realize wow that wasnt a good testimony at all and thats also somthing i need to work on alot
if i just work on this little thing then it will bring me os much closer to God and i will be so much happier all the time
sometimes im jsut miserable for no reason but then i think about it and i realise that im not where i need to be in my walk with God and its God whos making me like that to open my eyes and realise that i hate being like that and the only way to not is to get back on track with Him ....
{i never really realized how much doing your devotions can make a difference in your day .. because i havent done them for about a week because ive been so busy with school and work and i could see a difference in how i was living just in that short amount of time}
so i think this was just what i needed today =]
today i really could have used this passage. Well at school this annoying punk jessie who thinks he knows everything and kept on yelling at me and shoved me. of course being the ungratefull sinner i am showed my wrath and just shoved him back and started to yell at him. Pretty much i was the perfect example of what i shouldn't have done.
Anyways to get back on track. this kinda reminds me of yesterday since anyone, like myself, would be temted to just yell and show their anger, but again in verse 25 it says how we will be blessed if we hold ourselves back. this passage pretty much talks about don't show wrath unto others, and if you do thou shalt be blessed.
of well I'm out may peace be to all and to all a great day/night. :-)
I believe that this passage talks about our actions as christians. It's challenging us to not only "talk the talk" but also "walk the walk". What that means is that we cannot just say that we are christians and then go on to just living the same old life. Just as it says in the end of the passage if we do that our "religion" is vain. What we need to do is not only say "yeah, we're saved" but actually do things that make people think wow that kid must be saved, Gods really working through him. If we don't show sinners what a real christian is then who will?
The later parts of this passage meant to me that you're not only decieving those around you when you are a poor example of a Christian, you can often be decieving yourself by thinking you are still decent when you are not holding back your smite and being attentive to listen first. This can often make you seem foolish and hypocritical to others when you say that you are a Christian, but act contradictingly. And again, it says if you are an example of Christ and true to your religion, you will be blessed, which to me is another hint that this is a way you should really strive to be.
