Amen Victoria! we should do something nice for PL and PC. Tell me what you come up with!

1 Timothy 4

1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
6 If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.
7 But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
9 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.
10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.
11 These things command and teach.
12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.
16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

Verse 12 caught my atention today. It is telling us we need to be an example to everyone out there that we are the believers of th Lord Jesus Christ! How do we do that you may ask? not only be hearers of the word, but doers of the word as well. The verse gives us some examples. In word, that is, no profanity, in conversation, that is, no gossiping, in charity, that is giving to less fortunate, in faith, and in purity, that is, no immoral sexual content.

Verse 10 was pretty awesome too! it tells us the living God is the Savior of everyone, but then it cuts to the chase and says, "....especially to those who believe." See, when Christ died on the cross, He did it for everyone, but that doesn't mean EVERYONE is going to heaven. You have to BELIEVE IF YOU want heaven and God.

Tell me what you think of verse 3. It sounds like its a sin to be a vegitarian, but maybe I'm taking it literally!

Thanks! Yeah we should try and get the whole youth group to do something special for both Pastor Lee and Pastor Chip :)

This is explaining that not only do we need to read and understand God's word, we need to apply it to our lives! And if we apply it to our lives and daily situations, we are also spreading the word around! I like it that this passage tells us some do's and dont's. And sometimes we even fall under the dont's catagory if not careful.
"10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.
11 These things command and teach.
12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity."-So we can also be examples to others who haven't found Christ yet! I was reading a thing today about how many people across the globe haven't even heard of Jesus! Isn't that unbelieveable?? That is why communication and gospel are so important. Especially now-a-days. The stronger we grow in faith, the more we learn. And yeah, I am very confused about verse 3. I'll have to look into that...
All in all, the chapter gives a great understanding of expressing faithfulness.

i really liked this message =]

it really does show that we all need to be reading the scripture and soaking up everything we can from the bible, but we also need to be applying every little thing we learn from the bible...to our lives. and not only do we need to lock his word in our hearts but we need to be living it so other people can come to know christ. god doesn't want us to keep his word to ourself but to share it with others =]

The verses that I like are verses 14 & 15. In 14 it says "Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery."....I like this verse because it shows that God has given every single one of us a gift and that we should not neglect this gift. I think that the gift each one of us were given should be used to praise God and not ourselves and if we do praise God with our gift we shall see profit as it says it verse 15 which states that we should "Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all." The big thing in that verse is the last phrase which says thy profiting may appear to all which means that anyone can profit from God's gifts as long as we use it to praise Him first.
