2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.
3 When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.
4 The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.
5 It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.
6 A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.
7 A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.
8 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
9 He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.
10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
11 The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.
12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.
13 He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.
14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?
15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
16 A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
17 He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.
18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.
19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.
20 A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.
23 The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.
24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
In my thoughts I have come up with a few things that can make us unfriendly:
1. If you are constantly talking about how great YOU are, then people generally do not want to be around you as much as you want to be around yourself!
2. If you are constantly being negative or grouchy then people do not want to be around you.
3. If you are constantly insecure then people often times do not want to be around you because insecurities make other people feel uncomfortable...
Those are just three reasons but I am sure there are many more. The key is: If you want friends then be the kind of friend that you want others to be to you. BE FRIENDLY!!!!!
Verse 21: WOW!! This is some serious stuff! Death and Life are in the power of YOUR TONGUE!! Your tongue has the power to kill or the power to make alive!
Think about it! Have you ever heard of someone commiting suicide because of something that someone said to them? Have you ever heard of someone not commiting suicide because of something someone said to them... What about this: Spiritual life and spiritual death are in the power of the tongue! That means that by the words you say you might just be leading someone to Heaven or Hell!! Be careful what you say!! It could effect someones ETERNITY!!!
Verse 13 is the last one I will talk about this morning! He that answers a matter before he hears it; it is a shame and a flooy unto him! This could be many things... Gossip, jumping to a negative conclusion about something or someone, lying... Many things.
I have seen in many ways how talking about something before I really know the details can get me into trouble!! Don't just go off about something! Find out the facts before you make yourself look stupid! TRUST ME!! :)

This passage as well talks a lot about a fool and what the actions of a fool are. This passage talks a little more specifically about speech and it's importance. It talks about how offending a brother is serious, and how difficult it can be to mend the relationship. It is no accident that just a few verses later it states that "death and life are in the power of the tongue." At first I was thinking about this and thinking that this seems a little bit strong, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized how deeply true it is. I know I have had my day made by some kind word that was said to me. On the flip side, we hear about how people have actually killed themselves if they were being bullied or something like that. We must choose our words very carefully. I think a lot of times we are very careless with our words, and we forget how powerful they really are.
There are alot of really great verses in this passage. Some are encouraging and others are quite simply eye openers. Verse 10 is certainly encouraging -->10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.<-- When we find ourselves dealing with lifes problems all we need to do is call upon the Lord. It is comforting to think when we do so, the Bible says we will be SAFE.
Verse 13 is, in my opinion, an eye opener. -->13 He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.<-- I think this can also be related to some of the lessons in yesterdays passage, about just staying quiet! Of course we all know the saying "dont judge a book by its cover" but it says it right here in the Bible. Although that may not be " answering " something, i think it fits into the general idea; dont judge, speak, answer etc until you know what your talking about.
Another eye opener; verse 19-->19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.<-- This is something we must all be aware of. To me it seems like this verse is a clear warning. If you offend your brother it can be a difficult road fix the relationship. I also think it is not just talking about a blood brother, but possibly close friends, that are like brothers as well. This verse can be related to verse 24 -->24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother<--. Treat others as you would want to be treated wasnt just pulled out of no where. It seems this verse can be tied to that message. If you want to have friends, be friendly! Sometimes simply being friendly can result in brotherly relationships.
Last one.. verse 21--> Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.<-- Too me this is the most powerful verse in this passage. To think our words can have an effect on life and death! We must be conscious of what comes out of our mouths. Latley i have just been trying to focus on having my words say im a Christian but words can be even more powerful than that... if that makes sense. My reality check was its more than just me, if i want to be stupid and act stupid, then so be it. BUT when im calling myself a Christian and being stupid, thats not ok, because that can mean giving Christians a bad name. I want not only to be a Christian, but to represent Christ; not only through my words, but through my actions aswell.
Mallory,
I'm praying for you today. You are a brave one!
Mrs. W.
10 "The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe."
Safe! Usually that's what the umpire says in a baseball game, but in this case, it's what God says when we take shelter in His Name. The wicked don't read the bible, but they do read the people who read the bible. Show them God's Name is Strong and they can seek shelter in that tower by calling upon that Strong and Mighty Name.
Yo wa sup hommies. So I'm gonna head out now to go to BUFFALO WILD WINGS which might I add are extremely delicious. I will be back for the devos later, but before I go Yo mama so ugly she made an onion cry!
one verse that I liked was verse 24-a man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother-meaning if you want friends then you need to show yourself friendly because no one is going to want to hang around you if you aren't friendly. also if you aren't friendly then you will probably make enemies not friends. so we need to be friendly to make friends.
he PL I just wanted to let you know that I wont be able to go to BWW because I have been deathly sick for the past two days. also josh yo mamma is so fat that fat albert called and wants his stomach back...lol.
Pastor Lee, Thanks for taking us to wild wings tonight. Even though I ate like Will, I still just like to laugh with you guys, and sorry if I was a grouch, I just don't like to eat unfamiliar looking food, but I guess next time I'll expand my comfort zone.
Josh, by the way, yo mama is so fat, that when the moon disapeered, she volunteered to be the replacement!
ya no doubt, thnx 4 the wings pastor lee! it was a good time for sure, especially the whole blazin wing deal, which im just now recovering from ;) haha
Oh dear. I have struggled with speaking to swiftly and not listening enough. The weird thing is that people will get offended for the wrong reasons sometimes and for someone close it makes me go back and ask if what I said was the right thing or wrong. Furthermore was is constructive and loving. I think more often than not we will speak more than we need. The wise man listens but a fool only speaks. I like what Katie says about verse 21. Death and Life are held in the power of words not only of another but our own tongue can destroy us. and oh verse 19 talks about a brother offended is hard to be won back. Well this is directly applicable to my conditions right now. Many times my brother and I disagree and I can't help sometimes but try to uphold values or even give an opinion he might dislike. Where do I decide it isnt necesary? I think the biggest deal is realizing that I can't impress anything upon anyone else. Yet, the idea of inaction kind of scares me. If someone says something that is bogus shouldn't we as christians be the ones to give our 2 cents? But I already know the answer to this and that is our actions can always speak louder. Talking about things only accomplishes so much. But given a circumstance our choices can affect much more.
Oh lord grant me wisdom in this matter help me to be slow to speak and quick to listen.
WOW if you werent with us tonight you missed out big time!!! Most of us had the hottest sauce "Blazin"! Great job Jordan and Rachel for eating the entire wing!!! I only ate one little bite and we tricked Michael to think I ate one that was HOT just to make him eat A HOT one himself!!! turns out the sauce was on that wing and IT...WAS...HOT, then I had a bite of the real wing and it was powerful even though I didnt have that much, someone instead put it all over my mouth! lol haha its all good and that was also my 1st time ever having a wing. Josh your a wimp I cant believe you didnt try it!!! jk. changing the subject My leg is doing much better and they took the wick out this morning I have pictures that are so disgusting and there was a deep hole in my leg! ewwwwww but im happy im doing better and should be doing volleyball tomorrow!!!!
SORRY for those stories, I will now do my devotions!!!
okay so my favorite verse was verse 24! it makes total sense that you have to BE a friend to HAVE a friend. Jesus is the friend that sticks closer than a brother. I love this verse and on this Steve Green video I watched when I was little this verse was in a song. Just be friendly and you will have friends in time. I also like verse 21 its very powerful(just like those wings) I think how you described it is very good Pastor Lee. Depending on what you say to yourself and others can change you and them immediately and hurt you and the people you talk to. So be careful what comes out of your mouth and make sure its positive and wont kill!!! well I had fun tonight see you tomorrow!!! bye for now and thinks for letting me come and being able to try wings for the 1st time!!! bye
So thankyou Pastor Lee! Tonight was fun even though my tongue, like, had a seizure. lol
those blazin' wings were HOTTT!!!
And Michael...lol;
"But i dont know what it is!"
"Uhm...its a chicken wing. ??"
But heyy, The brightside is;
you didnt suffer the consequences of a freakishly hot hot-wing lol.
So a big verse for me here was 19.
Once you offend someone, sometimes its hard to come back and form something positive with them in the future.
Thats pretty ironic, because just today at school i was getting called some nasty things that truly make no sense by a girl who doesnt really know me.
Of course i didnt flip out on her for saying the things about me, but i did grumble about how stupid i thought it was that shed say that and how nasty and rude of her it was, and now that i think of it, if that gets back to her, she will probably be offended and angry just as i was.
Thats not so good, seeing as i hate having enemies, and in the future i doubt talking to the girl will ever be too friendly, even if i attepmt to mend it.
That can make for one less person that i can demonstrate a good Christian to, and maybe i didnt completely ruin that today, but tomorrow i need to remember to not let my offense ruin my opportunity to show Godliness to someone.
everyone that went to BWW is a fool except for Mike and myself. Why would anyone in their right mind want to eat something that is obviously gonna give them extreme physical discomfort. Oh well it was funny for me so I don't care. so as for the devos... wow I don't know why but right when I read verse 10 I imeadiatly thought of strong tower by kutless. God is always there for us and is a fortress when we're weak, and even when we're feeling strong and mighty.
oh yeah tyler well Yo mama so skinny she has to wear a belt with spandex.
