A Few Thoughts From Yesterday:
Cary: Nice! 200! Great Job!
John Massey: What is it about school that you hate so much?
Romans 4
1 What then shall we say that Abraham our father has found according to the flesh?
2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.
3 For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”
4 Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt.
David Celebrates the Same Truth
5 But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness,
6 just as David also describes the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness apart from works:
7 “ Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, And whose sins are covered;
8 Blessed is the man to whom the LORD shall not impute sin.”
Abraham Justified Before Circumcision
9 Does this blessedness then come upon the circumcised only, or upon the uncircumcised also? For we say that faith was accounted to Abraham for righteousness.
10 How then was it accounted? While he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised.
11 And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while still uncircumcised, that he might be the father of all those who believe, though they are uncircumcised, that righteousness might be imputed to them also,
12 and the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of the faith which our father Abraham had while still uncircumcised.
The Promise Granted Through Faith
13 For the promise that he would be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.
14 For if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise made of no effect,
15 because the law brings about wrath; for where there is no law there is no transgression.
16 Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all
17 (as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed—God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;
18 who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, “So shall your descendants be.”
19 And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb.
20 He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God,
21 and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.
22 And therefore “it was accounted to him for righteousness.”
23 Now it was not written for his sake alone that it was imputed to him,
24 but also for us. It shall be imputed to us who believe in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead,
25 who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification.

What vs 23-25 tell us is that because our faith, we have raised Jesus from the dead. Even though we crucified Him, 'cause of our nasty sin, we raised him up as well because Christ knew we would put our trust in Him, because we knew WHY He died, and He knew we would be gratful of what He did for us. Man, who betrayed Him from the beginning, was also saved by Him from His blood. That is definetly something to rejoice over.
Jesus is coming soon- if you didn't know.
Wow ROTC is taking up so much time plus my homework plus my Sister whose neck i feel like strangling sometimes. I think about doing devos I look at the devos, but I get pulled away and don't do my devos. ARRGH I'm just glad my sister is gone and now I can focus on what really matters in life and that is God. WOO-HOO anywho, ways, how whatev its DEVOTION TIME.
Well I guess there are a couple things that you could pull out of todays message, but there is one thing that i would like to focus on. Verses one through eight says how abraham did many works, but what is getting to heaven is that he believes in god. So all those works is kinda like paying off an endless debt. So then david does some "lawless deeds", but even though he does these things he is still going to heaven because, again, he believes in god. Just because they're both going to heaven even though apparently abraham did more than david, that doesn't mean that you can just slack off.the more we do now while we are alive the more rewards we will get in heaven.
I know that Jesus rose because of us.in verse 2 it says Abraham boasted to people but not in front of God. In verse 13 it says Abraham is the heir of the world not through family or power but through his faithful quality.
This scripture speaks wonders and really ties into what we have been talking about; hypocrites. As Christians we find ourselves telling others how to live before we have even figured out our own lives. In Romans chapter 4 we see that the Lord will be "the Father of all those who believe, though they are uncircumcised that righteousness be imputed into them also." The chapter is telling us that ALL who come to the Lord as forgiven, regardless of their state. If you put your faith and trust in the Lord he will take you as you are.
I know that there is a lot more in this passage, however, what really stood out to me was that the Lord will be your Father no matter what. I am learning quickly that not everyone is so accepting. In times of trouble it can be so easy to forget the Lord but I know that I need him now more than ever before.
Another part that was really amazing is that this passage shows that Jesus WILL carry out promises through faith. If you believe and trust in the Lord, which can be hard at times, it WILL be done.
I really need to do some hard praying and dig deep into myself to become the best christian I can be. I have a lot to learn and so much more room to grow in the Lord.
-Fall retreat in two days!! :]
wow i wish more people had come tonight it was sooooo much fun!!!not that that is any different than any other wednesday.
i would like to start off by asking why pastor lee has not posted his comment yet?!!?!? that is like the best part of my day(reading what he wrote).....
moving on...
in this chapter we notice the greatnesss of God(AGAIN!!!!)it is funny because i read this and then i read some of the comments and then i read it again and what rachel said is really starting to make sense.(when she said that the Lord is going to be you father no matter what)the way i look at it is: if God is always going to be there for us shouldent we do the same for him? when I think of it like that it is kinda like a slap in the face. What i mean is i havent benn on the devos very well this week and yet jesus is still there for me.he gave his all for me by dieing on the cross and the LEAST thing i could do is give him about 10 minutes a day!RIGHT?well i am sorry i went off topic a bit but rachel put that on my heart so thanks rachel!!!!
P.S: i am excited about Sunday!!
hey guys, I decided to post my comments with the rest of you today! The main thing that jumped out at me in this passage is the wasy that Paul kept repeating: "accounted it to him for Righteousness" ...
The question is: am I lmaking choices and decisions every day that add Righteousness to my account...
Think about it like this: I have a bank account and everyday I would love to put another hundred dollars in that account to build more and more money... well, Although I dont have that much money, I can choose to have that much righteousness... All I have to do is make righteous choices... by doing so I will add more and more righteousness to my "account" therefore I will BE more and more righteous just like Jesus Christ!!
I was to be RICH in RIGHTEOUSNESS!!! :)
Be rich in righteousness and apply it to everything you do. Like David was a man after God's own heart!! Wow what if God said that about u!! That would be awesome!
22 And therefore “it was accounted to him for righteousness.” - This is exactly what we should be doing in our lives, accounting righteousness and appliying it in our lives everyday
Wow sorry I didnt come 2nite Pastor Lee I had B-ball practice and didnt feel good after that. If I have it next Wed. I will skip it and come to church. anyways...
Im glad you came on here pastor lee to tell us your thoughts on this passage! As we can see we need to be more rightous! we need to show others why we are on this earth living for HIM and be careful with the ways that we act and the way are attitude is in front of others. And like Pastor Lee said we need to make rightous choices!!! I hope that makes sense! Well I will see you guys Sunday morning!!! bye
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!PASTOR LEE POSTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(i waiting for that)
When you bring up circumcision, you risk leading people to believe that circumcision is ok.
95% of the world's Christians do not circumcise. Circumcision is NOT part of Christianity:
Romans 2:29, Romans 3:30, Acts 15:10, I Corinthians 7:18, I Corinthians, 12: 18, Galatians 5:6, Galatians 5:2, Galatians 6:15, Philippians 3:2, Colossians 2:12, Matthew 9:12
HIS body HIS decision
that last comment, idl who it is, confuses me...
i thought circumcision WAS okay???
.....
well anyways,
To me, this seems to be pointing out faith and how if we have strong faith and dedication to God, we will see results that coorespond to our efforts.
Maybe even better things!
well im really tired...gnight'
