14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

What a powerful punch of a passage! This passage has quite a bit of information but the key idea is that If I trust in Christ then my faith will automatically have works. Remember how we always talk about it in youth group? I think we say: "If you believe something then your ACTIONS will prove it. " Remember the $20.00 Bill illustration?
This passage makes it clear that Faith without works is dead.
This idea is kind of controversial because many people including me believe that faith is the only requirement for salvation. However, several people try to justify their sin by saying that "Salvation is by faith, not by works."
YEs, it is, but Salvation will ALWAYS bring good works. If we are saved then we WILL see a difference in our life. Is there a difference in yours?

I think the passage is saying that if you truly believe then works will automatially appear within your life because faith and works are tied together. It is true that you are saved by fiath alone but if you really really believe then works will coincide troughout your life.

man i love this passage. it explains how if you only have faith and your not doing anything it pointless. Actions speak louder than words my mom always says just like your works will prove your faith more than just saying it.

Have a GREAT time in Jacksonville, guys!!!!!!

In verse 14, it basically says: What does it profit, my brothers and sisters, that a man say he has faith, but doesn't show works? Can faith save him? I think this is the point of the message, and it asks a good question... Can faith alone save you? If you are truly faithful in God, I believe it can, but it is by works that one shows their faith. If someone is naked, and deprived of food essential for their living, and someone says to them, go in peace, be warmed with clothes and filled with food; in spite of the fact that you give them these things which they need; what do they gain? Even so faith, if it has no works, it is dead, being alone. This says that when people are in need of clothes, food, God or w/e the case may be, if you say "go and you shall find food and shelter," or "God is real and you should believe in his power and that he only can save you." yes, you show faith that will find what they need, but you are not working to help them with food problems, or bring them to church. The way i'm reading verse 18, i get it saying, a man says, we have faith, but i have works: make me believe that you have faith, and i will show you i have faith by my actions. It goes on to say that you believe that there is one God; you do well: the devil and demons believe also, and they tremble. But will you learn, you foolish man, that faith without works is dead. "As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead."

I like this passage a lot! It talks about faith without works. It's pretty simple to understand, if you say that you have faith in God than you should have works that prove it. If you do not your faith may be false. It's like that example that pastor Lee always uses: If he said that he loved Katie and only spent one hour with her a week and nothing else he doesn't really love her. Or at least thats how I think it goes :)

this passage means alot and we need to remember this for everyday life it was kinda cool because on thursday night the message kinda went along with this and i could tell that God was really trying to get this point across to me because reciently i havent been the best example of a christian to my friends and i know that i need to be because they all know that i am a christian and that i go to church but if they dont see any difference between my life and theirs than they arnt really gonna see the importance in becoming a christian and living for God because i havent been the example i should be and i know just like this pasasge says that it is faith that saves you not your works and if you really do have faith then the works will automatically come but reciently i havent had the works jsut te faith but that is deff gonna change and already has since since ive been back form jacksinville =]

i think this is a reminder to put your heart into your faith and let it take over and show the works it can through you, just like when you see some friends or peope you may not even know as well claiming their salvation it can be hard to believe when their is no product of proof. I remember not too long ago thinking; "then where are these wonderful things that should be coming from my life" & realizing i needed to really open my heart for the fruit to show is what ive been following everyday.
