Proverbs 10:1-10

Pastor Lee:
This passage has a lot of great comparissons between the just and the foolish. The Just makes proud parents, the foolish breaks their parents heart. The Just will not be famished, they will always have what they need, while the wicked will have no substance. And I think the most powerful one is verse 7 where it says that whenever people remember a just person, they think good things, but whenever people remember a fool, the name of that person is like having a bag of rotton potatoes. (have you ever smelled rotten potatoes?? THEY SMELL AND LOOK HORRIBLE) So the question is: How do you want to be remembered? As a blessing or as a sack of rotten potatoes?

One last thought: Verses 4 and 5 are speaking about how foolish it is to be lazy. God says dont be Lazy, but be diligent! Dont procrastinate, but plan ahead! It makes life a lot easier, TRUST ME!

1 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.
2 Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.
3 The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.
4 He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.
5 He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.
6 Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
7 The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.
8 The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.
9 He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.
10 He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.

I would want to be remembered by being a wise son that maketh a glad father. not a foolish son that is heaviness unto his mother. My step mom told how bad rotten potatoes smell and she said its the worst smell in the world and I dont want to smell like rotten potatoes and when people think of me I definetly want them to think of me as the sweetest smell not the worst. Being lazy is something I have always been struggling with and one of my teachers told me that being lazy is against the Bible and I thought he was weird but then I read this passage (a long time ago) and I wondered am I being lazy in doing my devotions or witnessing to people and that is what last night's message was on and I really think that I should get off my behind and get out there and tell some people that I know are not saved about Christ because they cant beleieve if they have never heard about it or they cant confess their sins to God if they dont know who He is.

I actually read this this morning as well as just now i kind of read ahead assuming that vs 1-10 would be the devo. I think this part of the scripture is the basis for success in all aspects of life. Not only success in money, but family, in society and reputation. These saying of Solomon are some of the best guidelines to base one's life off of. I dont know about anyone else but one of the things i strive to do is please my father. When i get something right, or succeed in a particular area my father is proud and that is the best feeling in the world. Similarly, we should please by portraying the wisdom he gives us. When you know you are doing whats right and what God wants you to do it's an even greater feeling than pleasing your father in the flesh.

Beind a disgrace to your parents who are responsible is laos bringing disgrace upon yourself, and not only does it brand you that way, you are just kissing out of thegood that can be gained from being righteous. Also, like it says to be lazy in harvest; why waste time being lazy when you can harvest souls for the Lord? I think sometimes we find it easier; especially me, to say 'oh well i know they go to a church already, theyll get saved there' or 'someone else will reach to them' Why wait? You could be there one chance or maybe, could open them up to a diffrent understanding of salvation. Youre doing good for everyone when you step up, be wise, and do your job as a Christian. I can really apply this lately, ive been lazyy. :/
