Proverbs 10:11-21

Pastor Lee:
You should be able to understand most of these verses. Basically the whole passage in a contrast between the "words of the wise man" and the "destruction" of the foolish. We see different comparisons in every verse. Some explain the wisdom in we can find in the words of a righteous person, and then others explain that the mouth of the foolish is near destruction. Do you know someone like that? Every time they open their mouth, they are starting some kind of problem whether it be gossip or just simple trying to pick a fight. We need to make sure that we are wise and that we are full of wise words. The fact is: When we are living Godly, our mouth is a well of life. In other words our mouth is just full of endless words that lift up God and others.
All that is great, but my favorite verse is 12. Love covereth all sins. If I love someone, like love is described in 1 Corinthians 13, then I cannot hold a grudge, because true love covers all sins. Just as Jesus Christ covered all my sins by his "true love"

11 The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
12 Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.
13 In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.
14 Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.
15 The rich man's wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.
16 The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.
17 He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.
18 He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.
19 In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.
20 The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.
21 The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.

In verse # 12 where it says hatred stirreth up strife but love covereth all sins. This week I have been resighting this verse to myself and every time I get mad at someone or have a bad attitude towards my mom or being mean to my friends. This verse comes right to my mind and I say this verse is sooo soo helpful in every day life. This week I have been watching my language its not bad at all but I'd catch my self saying crap in front of little kids and then I would say I mean stink so I need to watch my example meter and see what way I am going. Some kids that go to my school say oh my - and I would say watch the language or just language and they would understand that I dont like cursing around me. But the fools which do say bad things will not prosper and the wise will.

I love this passage because i know several of my friends who constantly talk about problems other people have . Everyday I hear it and I have a hard time not joining in. The bible tells us that it is wise to guard against it and one has a quarrel with someone spreading senseless slander against them is not the way to resolve it. I <3 Proverbs.

Your mouth and the things that come out of it can be uplifting or degrading, and its your choice, often depending on how wise and determined you are to do good for God. It is so obvious how saying foul things only hurts, and saying loving things only lifts up and a lot of times we deliberately say the wrong things anyways. If we are loving in what we say to other people, they are going to be loving back; its sorta like creating a big love fest :] Your mouth can either spread the 'life' thats in it or destroy with the nasty that comes out of it. When it says the tongue of the just is like silver, it means that not only will we be bringing people up with positive speaking, we are worth more to those people and are more significant to the people we associate with. i listen to how people speak all the time and think to myself 'do i ever want to sound like that?' and i dont, so i can often put this into practice all the time.
